L.O.F Wellness & Counseling.

Meet Shawneshia

Black Queer Psychotherapist  of the Bay

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing virtual psychotherapy to individuals and families throughout the Greater Bay Area. With over  13 years of clinical experience. I specialize in supporting clients navigating mood challenges, anxiety, and complex trauma.

My therapeutic approach integrates Culture Centered Therapy and psychodynamic interventions. Culture-Centered Therapy allows us to examine the social, historical, and cultural contexts that shape lived experience, while Psychodynamic therapy is a depth oriented form of psychotherapy that focuses on how unconscious processes, early life experiences, and relational patterns shape a person’s current emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Together, these approaches create a thoughtful and holistic framework for self discovery.

At the heart of my work are humor, authentic self-expression, introspection, and spirituality. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative and intentional process a delicate dance in which we explore your experiences, deepen self understanding, and reconnect you with your inner wisdom. My goal is to support you in moving toward greater clarity, healing, and personal liberation.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with vulnerable and underserved communities, including toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults. I bring 13 years of experience supporting foster care youth, transgender youth, and system-impacted multicultural families. I am deeply committed to serving Black and Brown youth, adults, and families navigating complex intersectional identities and systemic barriers.

In addition to my telehealth private practice, I serve as an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant and LMFT affiliate with the City and County of San Francisco. I also work as a consultant with medical institutions, providing training and strategic guidance on identifying and responding to signs of suicidal ideation and risk.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and my Master of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Community Mental Health Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies. My clinical training spans a wide range of settings, including community-based and nonprofit organizations, medical clinics, dual-diagnosis rehabilitation centers, outpatient substance use treatment programs, residential group homes, and public school systems including the San Francisco Unified and Alameda Unified School Districts.

Over the years, I have supported individuals facing a broad spectrum of challenges, including bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, body image concerns, personality disorders, eating disorders, relationship conflict, financial stress, justice system involvement, and substance use recovery.

Born in the South and raised in the Bay Area, I believe deeply in the healing power of community. As a Queer Black professional living within cultural margins, I remain deeply committed to the well-being, resilience, and liberation of Black and POC LGBTQ+ communities.
